Taking found objects and combining them with sculpted elements,
photos, images and paint to create a one of a kind three dimensional mixed media artwork
"The Lure of Lorelei"
Mixed Media 45" X 21" X7"
I was told as a child that I was named after the mythical sea siren Lorelei who sat on the treacherous rocks above the Rhine River in Germany. It was said that she lured sailors to their death by singing an entrancing song that hypnotized them and caused them to run their ships into the rocks. This is my tribute to her story that I heard so often.
I made a lightweight version of a heavy pulley for "The Lure of Lorelei" using chip board, popsicle sticks, dowels, wire and paperclay
"The Siren's Locker"
Fix It Clay, Dried Fan Coral, Paint 26" X 14" X 9"
In this piece I wanted to show the beautiful but deadly siren relishing her trophies symbolically under lock and key. She is under water, tentacles floating, and her victims are covered in the green algae that accumulates on sunken treasures.
"The Wrath Of Cthulhu"
Aves Clay, Vintage clock, wood, paint
30" X 15" X 8"
Here is a shrine dedicated to mythical Cthulhu. The poor sailor has resigned himself to sinking with the ship in the wake of Cthulhu's vicious attack. This piece is one that I would love to see moving. I can see the waves going back and forth, the wings flapping, tentacles grabbing, eyes blinking, and the gears turning...
Here is my finished Cthulhu sculpture out of Aves Clay before painting
"Captain Patronius"
Mixed Media
16" X 14" X 10"
This is kind of a Steampunk themed submarine display where Captain Patronius is giving us the tour of the vessel.
Meet "Copernicus the Timekeeper" ( or "Coop" to his friends). Coop's original 1930's Telechron clock has long stopped ticking. Now the only way he can tell the time is through an old pocket watch given to him by a traveling snake oil salesman he met while wandering on a dusty road. Unlike the famous tin man, Coop was given a heart from the get go by his maker- and although his main job of keeping the time seems to have fallen by the wayside, he meets friends wherever he roams
I call this one "BRCA1"
This is a story of Breast cancer and one that has impacted my life personally. I was first diagnosed 30 years ago at age 38, and then again this year at age 67. Cancer takes a toll on your family and spreads fear and chaos into your life. This is a piece filled with lots of hidden Easter eggs and symbolism for me.
